As a medical archivist, you work a lot with the patient's medical record. In there, doctors use lots of medical words that can be hard to understand. In other parts of the medical archivist's work, you have to work with the law. We do the Follow up on requests for the access to information to authorized parties according to the laws.

Accession
noun
A body of records registered as a unit (and given an accession number) for the purposes of administrative control. This includes physical identification and control of transfer, storage, retrieval, and disposition. Accessions typically cover records maintained in a records storage facility contracted by government.
Example: The file was stored in the accession.

Accuracy
noun
The qualities of a record that render it precise, correct, truthful, free of error or distortion.
Example: The analysis has to be done with accuracy.

Ambulatory care
noun
Ambulatory care refers to medical services performed on an outpatient basis, without admission to a hospital or other facility
Example: The patient received ambulatory care.

anamnesis
noun
A patient's account of a medical history
Example: The doctor has to know the anamnesis of the patient.

Appraisal
noun
An act of assessing something or someone.
Example: The report has been subject to appraisal

Archival selection
noun
The process of selecting records designated with the final disposition of "selective retention" in an information schedule.
Example: To be aware of potential research, and to assess this alongside the A&C's overall acquisition strategy as set out in our Collection Development Policy and Archival Selection Guidelines.

Completeness
noun
The presence within a record of all the physical and intellectual elements (e.g., a signature, official letterhead, file code, and/or date, etc.) required by the creator and its governing body for it to be capable of serving its intended purpose.
Example: The medical record has to be done in its completeness.

Data collection

Data collection or data gathering is the process of gathering and measuring information on targeted variables in an established system, which then enables one to answer relevant questions and evaluate outcomes
Example: The date collection is the basis of the medical archivist job.

Deaccessioning
verb
The process by which a work of art or other object (collectively, a “work”), wholly or in part, is permanently removed.
Example: The deaccessioning has to be done every five years.

Digitize
verb
To convert an image or signal into a form easily understood by digital computers. For example, visual images are digitized by scanning, a process which assigns a ‘binary’ code for each visual element sampled.
Example: Some hospitals digitize their medical record.

Encryption
noun
The process of transforming information or data using an algorithm to make it unreadable, as a means of protecting data in transit.
Example: The file is encrypted.

Genome
noun
noun: genome; plural noun: genomes the complete set of genes or genetic material present in a cell or organism.
Example: The human genome project is now decoding the genetic mysteries of life. Later this year, researchers will complete the first draft of the entire human genome--the very blueprint of life.

Heirs
noun
A person legally entitled to the property or rank of another on that person's death.
Example: When the patient pass away, their heirs can have access to some information in the medical record.

Next-of-Kin
noun
Next of kin refers to a person's closest living relative, which usually includes individuals with a shared bloodline, such as children or cousins.
Example: The doctor will hask the next-of-kin informations if the patient is unresponsive.

Pedigree
noun
Related to the family history. The recorded ancestry, especially upper-class ancestry, of a person or family. "with a pedigree equal to many of the gentry"
Example: A pedigree chart displays a family tree, and shows the members of the family who are affected by a genetic trait.

Seizures
noun
A seizure is a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells (also called neurons or nerve cells) that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching or limpness), behaviors, sensations or states of awareness
Example: The patient had multiple seizures yesterday.

Subpoena

Noun: a writ ordering a person to attend a court. Verb: summon (someone) with a subpoena.
Example: Noun: A subpoena may be issued to compel their attendance. Verb: The Queen is above the law and cannot be subpoenaed.

Telehealth
noun
The provision of healthcare remotely by means of telecommunication's technology.
Example: When I had COVID, I used the Telehealth with my provider.

Transcription
noun
The conversion of voice-recorded reports dictated by healthcare professionnals into text format.
Example: The transcription was made this morning.
